RF Transmitters Nomad™ – Precision Speed Sensing for Safe Zones

Creating safe zones inside active industrial facilities is never simple. Forklifts, tow tractors, and mobile equipment keep moving, even when people need to work nearby. Nomad™ solves this challenge by delivering precise, temporary speed control exactly where it’s needed. As a portable RF transmitter, Nomad™ works with SSC’s Pace-One Zone Speed Control system to slow vehicles automatically when they enter designated work areas.

ON/OFF Speed Control

NomadTM is an RF Transmitter and an optional component of SSC’s Pace-One Zone Speed Control (ZSC) system. When switched “ON”, it sends out an RF signal to the ZSC Receiver on the vehicle. When the vehicle is in range of the RF signal, it will limit top travel speed to the programmed level.

Multiple Applications

NomadTM is designed for use by facility maintenance personnel as a temporary mobile safe zone. This is ideal when performing maintenance on manufacturing equipment, cleaning up spills, working on elevated platforms, or used where excess inventory is staged or repackaged. Wherever Nomad™ is active, surrounding vehicle traffic slows automatically. This reduces the risk of collisions without stopping operations across the entire facility. In environments where forklifts and pedestrians share space, this level of responsive pace control makes a measurable difference.

No Wires

Zone and transmit power are set with dip switches on the circuit board. NomadTM is powered by two CR2477 batteries, giving it over a two-year life.

How It Works

Be Aware - Stay Vigiliant

PEOPLE USING NOMADTM SHOULD ALWAYS BE ON GUARD WHEN WORKING AROUND FORKLIFTS AND OTHER MOBILE EQUIPMENT, TO HELP PROTECT THEM FROM EQUIPMENT IN MOTION.

Likewise, equipment operators should ALWAYS observe proper operating procedures and slow vehicles when operating around pedestrians and in high-traffic areas.

Mounting / Components

Nomad™ works alongside the Pace-One Zone Speed Control platform, which relies on accurate speed feedback from the vehicle. That feedback typically comes from a vehicle speed sensor or a transmission speed sensor already integrated into the equipment.

The RF signal from Nomad™ tells the control system when to enforce reduced speeds. The speed sensor data ensures those limits are applied smoothly and consistently, without harsh braking or unpredictable response. The NomadTM IR/RF is battery powered, but can also be ordered with a 110V plug as well.

Crosswalk Activation

NomadTM X is activated by depressing a push button on the mounting box. This powers NomadTM X and generates an RF signal that slows Pace-One-equipped vehicles AND wakes the NomadTM X on the opposite side of the crosswalk. In addition to slowing travel speeds, the LEDs on both boxes flash as visual indicators that NomadTM X is activated. The activation time is programmable on the NomadTM X circuit board. With this design, we have slower travel speeds or optional forced STOP (electric trucks) at crosswalks, but only when there are pedestrians present. This continues SSC’s design directive of improving safety and doing so with minimal effects on productivity.
